Are Vending Machines on school campuses good or bad?

You have probably heard about all the commotion about school vending machines in current news. Some schools say yes, and others say no to the idea of after lunch snacks in Elementary, Middle and High Schools. Some teachers say that snacks and drinks are distracting in class and other teachers say that it helps keep students awake.

Even the government has gotten involved in the argument about vending machines, and some state governments have even banned vending machines in their schools. According to a survey of schools, the School Health Policies and Programs Study have reported that high schools have the most vending machines, and then middle schools and the elementary schools have the least amount of vending machines.

The increasing number of vending machines in schools is said to be helping to increase the number of obese children and teens in America. Some teachers have reported that some students get more than one sugary snack during a typical school day, and it can make them loud, hyper, and disruptive in class.

These teachers are against vending machines in schools, and think that the food should stay in the cafeteria. The sleeping rate has also increased during the years, some teachers feel that they should just give up because they have to go over the same materials again and again.

But when their students have had some sugar or caffeine they tend to stay awake. So vending machines, to them, are a good idea, and they think that schools should keep the vending machines. But even with all the arguments back and forth about vending machines, some schools have already banned them.

Other schools have changed the vending machines policy to allow only water and fruit juices in their machines, and they have changed the chocolate bars and potato chips to granola bars and rice cakes.
